CHAPTER II
Revelation 4:1 through 5:14
The Second Heaven
(Revelation 4:1-3)
After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter.
And immediately I was in the spirit; and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne.
And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald.
John after seeing the beauty of the Lord
=s church in the first heaven (the first realm of the spirit) beheld the open door into the second realm of the spirit. Jesus is the door to all of his creation. His sheep know and follow only his voice. Jesus invites John to Acome up hither and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter.@ John was to encounter things that were ordained of God to happen at a predetermined place in the future.John could only approach by the spirit this realm of the church and he beheld first the throne and one who sat on the throne. Many are looking for two or even three to be on the throne, but there is only one.
AAnd he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald.@ All objects spiritually revealed to John or any apostle or prophet are significant. The stones mentioned here have special meaning when used to give reference to our Lord of Lords on his throne. The first stone, the jasper, is the crystal assigned to Benjamin the last born of Israel. Here it is mentioned first where on the original breastplate it was last. ABut many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.@1 AFor many be called, but few chosen.@2 The prophetic inheritance given to Benjamin was that Athe beloved of the Lord shall dwell in safety by him; and the Lord shall cover him all the day long, and he shall dwell between his shoulders.@3 The jasper was also called Amost precious@ and Aclear as crystal@ when John reveals it as the light of the Lamb=s wife having the Aglory of God.@4 This same stone would also represent the Afirst foundation@5 of the Holy City and the Abuilding of the wall of it was jasper.@6 The word Abuilding@ in this verse means Aa people fixed in time.@The sardine stone is the blood red ruby. It was the stone assigned to Reuben the first born of Israel. Reuben, whose name means
Abehold a son@ was prophetically given a blessing by Moses of eternal life, Alet Reuben live, and not die.@7 The ruby reflects this nature of Jesus who through his blood has given us eternal life. The rainbow is the sign of the first covenant. God told Noah,
Awith thee will I establish my covenant.@8 And again, AI do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth. And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud.@9 Jesus as Lord in the midst of the spiritual cloud of witnesses has the eternal covenant around his throne. The throne, Ain sight like unto an emerald@ reveals the stone of Judah, the tribe from which the Lord chose to honor, as regards to the flesh. AFor it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Judah; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood.@10 The emerald also reflects the last covenant, as he chose a tabernacle of flesh to reveal himself in.The last born, Benjamin, which means
Ason of the right hand@, is sit down with the first born, the ruby. Together they reflect the Christ and his bride. John is beholding the beginning and the end, the first and the last, united with the heavenly wife. When Jesus told John to Abehold thy mother@ at the foot of the cross, the natural eye could only see the natural mother, Mary. The spiritual eye would have beheld the new Jerusalem about to come forth from the second Adam, as eternal life (the ruby) and pure water (the jasper), would coming from the side of the word, by spirit, create the new mother of us all. The water and blood with the spirit is creating a new woman. We call her church, Jesus beholds her as bride. The Elders
(Revelation 4:4)
And round about the throne were four and twenty seats: and upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting, clothed in white raiment; and they had on their heads crowns of glory.
The seats, in this scripture, have a meaning in the Greek of
Athrones@ and Apower@. John as he looked into this coming assembly, was beholding himself on one of the seats (thrones). John called himself Athe Elder@ in II John and III John. Jesus had promised, AVerily I say unto you, that ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.@11 We see twelve seats prophetically filled by the apostles of the Lamb. The seats of judgement, reserved for the second twelve, were revealed by Paul as the Lord had also invited him up to the third heaven. ADo ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters? Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?@12The second twelve thrones or dominions of power are reserved for the
Aovercomers@. As they keep his works unto the end they will receive power over the nations and shall rule.13 Paul will share this throne of authority bringing in the Gentile nations. ABehold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.@14(Revelation 4:5)
And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices: and there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.
@A
Lightenings and thunderings and voices@ usher in a move of God. They are prophetic indications of world changing events. Ezekiel witnessed similar conditions in his vision of the whirlwind (see Ezekiel 1:4-14) as did Isaiah in his vision of the throne (see Isaiah 6:1-4).The prophet Zechariah revealed the seven spirits as seven anointings when speaking of the golden candlestick
Awith a bowl upon the top of it, and his seven lamps thereon, and seven pipes to the seven lamps, which are upon the top thereof.@15 The angel, at that time, revealed the word of the Lord, Anot by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.@16 The seven spiritual fires will cleanse the overcoming church as they walk into this realm of the spirit. Every man=s work must be tried by the fire. This is the baptism that Jesus is sharing with his church. John the Baptist (Elijah) prophesied, Ahe that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire.@17 The church will experience this spiritual fire of the Lord on the earth. Jesus said, AI am come to send fire on the earth; and what will I, if it be already kindled? But I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how am I straitened till it be accomplished!@18The Four Beasts
(Revelation 4:6-8)
And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind.
And the first beast was like a lion, and the second beast like a calf, and the third beast had a face as a man, and the fourth beast was like a flying eagle.
And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come
The Asea of glass like unto crystal@ represents the glory of the Lord. Paul had revealed Abut we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord.@19 This glory will be mingled with fire as the overcomers stand to sing their songs (see Revelation 15:2). The four beasts represent the redeemed of humanity by the blood of Jesus out of every kindred, and tongue and people and nation. The four symbolic faces of humanity seen with the four
beasts are:
the Lion - the
Aprophetic voice@ or Athe word@ the Ox/Calf - the Asacrifice and labor@the Man - the
Awalk and purpose@the Eagle - the
Aliberty and vision@They await
Athe manifestation of the sons of God@20 and the full Aredemption of our body.@21When Ezekiel beheld these same levels of humanity, they had four wings and eyes round about (see Ezekiel 1:5-11). They were looking forward to the deliverance to be brought by the blood of Jesus. Wings represent deliverance or liberty. As Jesus set these captives free they now have
Asix wings and eyes within.@ They know that the hope of glory is Christ in us. They exhort the fulfillment of God=s purpose as they have seen the three levels of Holy. They are pressing as a mighty cloud for the rest that our high priest promised the workers of righteousness.(Revelation 4:9-11)
And when those beasts give glory and honour and thanks to him that sat on the throne, who liveth for ever and ever,
The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying,
Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasures they are and were created.
The one who
Aliveth for ever and ever@ signified a dividing of time. Jesus is in the midst of the two Aevers@ in overcoming the curse and setting the captives free. The Afour and twenty elders cast their crowns before the throne@ which represent glory and honour and power. John was seeing the transfer of all spiritual authority to the word, the continuing creator of all things. AWhen the beasts give glory and honour and thanks@ the elders fall down. Humanity could only wait for full redemption to prevail. The Scroll
(Revelation 5:1-4)
And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals.
And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof?
And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon.
And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon.
The
Aright hand@ of the Lord was revealing a scroll with writing on the front and the back and sealed with seven seals. Each seal identifies the writer and must be opened in sequence when relating to a scroll. You write, roll up, seal and continue to write, roll up, seal till the whole is completed. To read the inverse is necessary. You unseal, read, unseal, read. Because it is a scroll rolled up and sealed, the seals unlock both sides when the scroll is unrolled. The Astrong angel@ (I=ve never known of a weak one) asked Awho is worthy to loose the seals thereof?@ A great sadness came upon John because no man was found worthy to open and read. The Arnion
(Revelation 5:5-8)
And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.
And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.
And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne.
And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of the saints.
Judah which means
Apraise@ was blessed of Jacob with a prophetic word, Athe sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.@22 AShiloh@ refers to Athe Prince of Peace@.Isaiah had prophesied of the
ARoot of David@, Aand in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious.@23Jesus who is made
Aboth Lord and Christ@24 hath prevailed to open the book and to loose the seven seals. He overcame and set down in the throne as a pattern for the body that follows him. He chose to allow his new creation, the ALamb@ to accomplish this. John who wrote the Revelation also wrote the Gospel of John. As the writer of both books, he chose by the leadership of the spirit, the wording that he used. When writing the gospel, John recorded the word, Abehold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.@25 And again, Abehold the Lamb of God.@26 John in writing this chose the Greek word AAMNOS@ which means Alamb@. Peter used the same word (AMNOS) when writing that we are redeemed Awith the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.@27 Moses when instructing Israel concerning the lamb gave these instructions, Ayour lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats: And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening.@28 John and Peter in writing about the Passover Lamb used the word AMNOS when referring to Jesus as our Passover. This related to the mature, male, unblemished lamb used at the Jewish feast. Praise God for Jesus as the Passover Lamb! But Jesus related to other lambs as John revealed from the third appearing of Jesus after rising from the dead. ASo when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.@29 John when quoting the Lord in this scripture used the Greek word AARNION@ which means a Alittle lamb@ or Anewly born lamb@. We have no problem relating this scripture to the Lord=s sheep or the Church. Now notice the word chosen of John when revealing the lamb of the Revelation. The word is AARNION@ not AAMNOS@. The lambkin (baby lamb) of the Revelation signified Christ in his church. The Lord of the throne has delegated His spirit in His body to be a living sacrifice. ANow the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.@30 The church is neither male nor female, bond nor free, but a new creation in Christ Jesus. AFor as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.@31The
Aseven eyes@ are the Aseven spirits sent forth into all the earth.@ They are also the Aseven lamps of fire burning before the throne@ in Revelation 4:5, which is the prophetic light of the church. The Aseven horns@ are symbolic of the Aseven trumpets of rams horns@32 used by the seven priests before the ark to bring down the walls of Jericho. The
Afour and twenty elders@ had stood up after casting their crowns before the throne to witness the appearing Lamb. After honoring the Lord they now honor Christ by falling before the Lamb. They are reflecting the praise (the harps) and the prayers (the odours) of the saints. The New Song
(Revelation 5:9-14)
And they sang a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by the blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;
And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.
And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands;
Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.
And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.
And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever.
The first recorded song was mentioned when God asked Job,
Awhere was thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding. Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who laid the corner stone thereof; When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?@33 The new song is also being sung by the sons of God who have been given the morning star (see Revelation 2:28).The redeemed church, the kings and priests in the presence of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, are counted worthy
Ato receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.@ The sons of God will give what they receive. The seven levels of fire have prepared the sons of God to manifest or show plainly the will of God for all creatures. The Lord Jesus Christ is honored by every tongue as the ONE on the throne and the ONE who is the Lamb.REFERENCES
